Singapore’s largest annual outdoor wine festival is back!
Wine Fiesta, presented by the Straits Wine Company, is back for its eighth consecutive year and will be held from 22 to 25 October at Clifford Square (beside Fullerton Bay Hotel). And, since it is Singapore’s Jubilee Year (bless you SG50), it will carry a “Singapore-style” theme. Guests will not only be able to enjoy over 350 different wines from all around the globe, but they will be also be serenaded by local music acts, while nomnoming on gourmet Singaporean influenced food! Four renowned Singaporean Chefs have come on board to provide a “not to be forgotten” Singaporean themed gastronomic experience.
I was allowed a sneak peek at some of these culinary delights…as well as a sampling of the wines that will be featured at the fair. Oy! Better do double duty in the gym starting now!
Khao Soi Hotdog Chicken banger, red curry mayo, pickled mustard greens, crispy noodles, coriander ($12) by Bjorn Shen of Bird Bird
While this was a spicy way to start the night, I may just have to insist on having red curry mayo on everything going forward! This generously sized hotdog might not seem like a “wine food” but the combination of the curry flavour and the coriander was nicely complimented by a AIX Rosé (2014). The light sweetness of the Rosé seems to really calm down the tongue, leaving you ready for that next bite.
Beef cheek rendang burger with achar and cheddar cheese ($10) by Matthew Mok of The Rabbit Stash
This slider is so tasty! While I usually only have beef rendang over rice, the sourdough bun worked equally well. Plus, being able to hold it with one hand, leaves the other hand free for the paired Vina Pedrosa “Gran Reserva” 2006.
Caramelised pork cheek bun with lemongrass blue ginger soy reduction ($8)
I cannot say enough about this little piece of heaven. Perfectly light and tender but bursting with flavour! This twist on the traditional porkbun was well matched with the Carrick Pinot Noir Bannockburn (2013). I envision a lengthy queue for these babies!
That is just a small portion of what is instore for the main event, as each chef has prepared 23 dishes. Chef Cheryl Koh of Tarte will also be curating a stunning tennisthemed dessert table in honor of the WTA tennis finals which will feature lemon meringue tarts taking the form of tennis balls and pistachio tarts reflecting the green tennis lawns!
In addition to sampling and buying wines at the event, guests can also participate in any of the free wine masterclasses focusing on different wine related topics. I am thinking whether you like wine or love wine… this is an event not to be missed!
