In town for just a couple of days on her whistle stop tour of Asia, the doyenne of design has joined forces with On Pedder to not only introduce her Spring/Summer 2014 wares, but also to introduce an exclusive, limited edition Pre- Fall blush-pink colour way, especially for this market and exclusive to On Pedder.
From the moment Mrs Beckham took charge and arranged the gaggle of assembled press for a group photograph, we can safely say, we were all slightly awestruck. As perfectly poised as she is in photographs and disarmingly sweet, nurturing and funny – Mrs Beckham certainly didn’t disappoint. Here are the highlights from our chat:
Can you tell us a little something about the Victoria Beckham x On Peddar Collection? These blush-tones are just gorgeous… I wanted to offer women in this region something different – just for On Pedder. I just really like the colour, it looks really great with the existing collections and the ready to wear collections, you can use it season on season and it works in day and evening. It’s just a really good, feminine, romantic colour.
Which is your favourite bag from the collection? It depends where I am going, I use the zip pouches a lot but then the Quincy bag is one that I use most days. I put in all sorts; credit cards, lipstick, iphone, iphone charger, sunglasses.
You’re on a whistle-stop tour of Asia, so what went through your head when you had to start packing for Singapore? The heat! I also like to have lots of options so I made sure to pack lots of dresses and accessories too.
Do you have plans to expand the Victoria Beckham brand through Asia? If the demand is here, and if the Asian ladies like what I do and they seem to, then yes. The women here really have a natural sense of style, a flair for fashion, very chic. They really seem to appreciate luxury and quality which is something that I really pride myself on. David loves it here and it’s only my third time here but I really hope to come back. Everyone I have met has been very kind and welcoming.
Any plans for a kid’s collection? There’s probably no way I would get the kids to model for me! I would never say never but it’s not on the cards right now – there are just not enough hours in the day.
You have so much going on in your life, how do you juggle work, family and the social side of things? It’s all about focus – I have great people around me who work on my schedule – I am not doing this all on my own, I do have quite a small team, but they all work very hard. Most important for me will always be the kids and David so I always make sure that I take the kids to school, that I do the school events and that my working life fits in with my children and their needs.
You always look so perfectly polished, what are your top beauty tips? Get as much sleep as you can, drink as much water as you can, try to work out but I am a very positive person and I think that a positive mind keeps you uplifted at all times.
Any fashion trends you’d never wear yourself? A crop top.
Do you still get nervous when showcasing new collections? Definitely. When I think back to my time as a performer, sending models out on the catwalk is more nerve racking than performing. I had a lot of fun with the Spice Girls and really appreciated all our fans, but for me this is what I really love, it’s what I really know about and it’s my passion. I love women and want to empower them so this makes me more nervous because its what I really care about.
