These Sassy Singaporean Girls tell us why they love calling The Lion City home.
Singapura, oh Singapura. In the spirit of our nation turning 50 (hey, it’s a year-long celebration okay!), everyone and everything has proclaimed their love and fond memories for this bustling metropolis. It seems that even with its little flaws (crazy humidity and soaring standards of living), we all have a soft spot for this place we call home. We gathered a few of our beautiful friends, #girlbosses and Sassy Girls to share with us why their romance with the little red dot will never fade out.
“Singapore has given me the the tools to narrow the gap between an alternative channel of work and reality. There is one degree of separation and I’ve had the most amazing opportunities over the last 20 years. Our country is a bubble of safety, but in return it allows us to direct our energy into a positive lifestyle of exploration.”
– Claire Jedrek, Race Car Driver, Mortorsport/Lifestyle Presenter, @clairejedrek
“I love Singapore because… there’s nothing quite like gula melaka saccharine sweetness that bubbles in your chest when you land home when you live abroad. It helps that you know you almost never have to twiddle your thumbs waiting for your bags to arrive at the airport carousel. Efficiency, cleanliness, safety and family — the reason why, no matter where I live in the world, I will always call Singapore home!”
– Faz Abdul Gaffa-Marsh, Writer and International Woman of Mystery, @fazabdulgaffa
“The thing I love most about being Singaporean is our acceptance towards diversity. Regardless of which nationality, race or religion you belong to, you’re free to express your unique self and culture, with the knowledge that you can definitely find folks who will celebrate you for who you truly are.”
– Joelle Pang, Founder of Get Klarity
“I love chatty taxi drivers with the best stories, kaya toast and kopi breakfasts. I love how we can never walk anywhere because of the weather and how just sitting in a coffee shop is such an experience, overhearing old uncles and aunties of different races talking.”
– Nabilah Said, Journalist, @nabbycat
“Obviously the food for me! You can get some fancy-*ss expensive dish at some Michelin starred restaurant and then be equally satisfied by a fantastic plate of oyster omelette.
– Shafa Yusuf, Aviation Fuel Sales
“Besides the variety of cultures (and their food!) we get to experience living here in Singapore, I also appreciate the accessibility of transport, and most of all, the safety that women enjoy here, even in wee hours of the night.”
– Jazmin Kelly Six, Editor of JUICE Singapore, @adoseofpretty
“I love and treasure most how truly safe Singapore is. As a woman, I can be out day or night, and not have to worry about what is lurking behind the corner. Then, there is also the amazing food culture, which comes as a huge bonus!”
– Lynsey Lim, Founder of Handmade Heroes, @handmadeheroes
“I like that I can meet and date people from other cultures in Singapore!”
– Squid Wan, Freelancer
“A mini city with a big roar! Singapore is a land of opportunity and you never second guess living in it. We have a high standard of living and it’s safe and sound. I can never explain my love for Singapore in just a few sentences, every little thing makes me proud.”
