In our arsenal of beauty products, the eyeliner reigns supreme simply because it has the potential to brighten our peepers and entire look from zero to hero. A quick swipe here and a flick there, you’ve got a statement make-up look that’s effortless and fuss-free. However, due to the sweltering heat and humidity here, beautifully pigmented liquid, cream and pencil liners are not able to stand the test of time and they slip and smear easily. Fortunately, there’s a solution to this hot-weather primping problem. Here are some tips and tricks that will make those liners stay and grab on to your lids for dear life.
1. Use Water-resistant Liner
When you’re out shopping for the essential item, always pick waterproof liner. Our personal favourite for that budge-proof flick on the upper lash line is Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Eyeliner; available in more than 10 shades if you think that black might be too harsh for you. Alternatively, you can opt for the gel (try Maybelline’s Colour Tattoo 24 Hour Cream) or kohl eyeliner for lining the lower lash line or your waterline.
2. Avoid Moisturiser Around The Lids
Moisturiser is great for your entire face to keep it hydrated and supple, but where possible try to avoid slathering this cream or gel on the eye area. Moisturiser around the eyes will only facilitate oil, making it easier to smear and smudge.
3. Use Eye Primer
Primers in general are a pre-game step to make everything you put on your face last longer. If you want your eye make-up to stay on throughout the day, the eye primer is a key step to incorporate into your make-up regime. Typically a colourless cream that glides on smoothly when applied over the lids, it ensures that your eyeliner doesn’t smudge or smear.
4. Use Translucent Powder Over Eyeliner
Just like setting your make-up with loose powder as the final step in your make-up routine, dust a little bit of translucent powder over your eyes after applying the eyeliner. This will make the pigment of the eyeliner stronger and make it stay for the rest of the day without budging one bit – no touch-ups required.
5. Spritz on Face Mist
Much like applying translucent powder over eyeliner or the entire face, spraying your mien with some refreshing spring water or face mist will lock in your make-up and also keep your face looking fresh and dewy throughout the day.
