Oh, rich and creamy, delicious chocolate. How we love it. We enjoy it in a bar, served in a drink, baked with cookies or cakes; whether it’s dark, raw, semi-sweet or sweet, we’re mad for all things chocolate. In fact, we’re so loco over cocoa that we think we’d be premium members at Chocoholics Anonymous. So if you trust our exquisite taste, here are some of our favourite spots for the best-tasting chocolate concoctions in town.
Max Brenner Chocolate Bar
Chocohalics unite! This international chain is known for all its creamy, ultra-indulgent selections from cakes, crepes, waffles, smoothies and more with a heavy dose of, you guessed it – chocolate! Here, chocolate is not just a treat, it’s a lifestyle. We’re crazy for the Popsicle Chocolate Fondue which comes with a vanilla ice cream, a chocolate dip, crispy pops and some caramel. Order a serving to share and add the Mini Chocolate Frappe Drink, for true bliss.

Artisan Boulangerie Co.
Head to Artisan Boulangerie Co for its chocolate éclair. This oblong pastry is filled with a super-rich cream filling and the chox dough is baked to perfection. A homegrown bakery, ABC is owned by Executive Ched Eran Mayer who studied at the prestigious French culinary École Grégoire Ferrandi and École Lenôtre and imports his flour from directly from outside of Paris. Angelina Tea Room & Patisserie
There’s nothing quite like a mug of classic hot chocolate. We usually take one instant mix most days but a serious cup of cocoa is worth putting in a little more effort and wait. A little bird told us that the famous Angelina Tea Room & Patisserie will be bringing a little part of Paris to Singers at the end of May and we simply just can’t wait! We’ve heard many raves about its hot chocolate being the best in the world and we’re anticipating the fine day (coming soon!) that we’ll get to have a taste of that sinfully rich drink.

The latest cafe to pledge to serving up an entire menu of chocolate offerings, this cosy cafe is located in a nook at Shaw Centre. Just another chocolate shop? Not quite. Cocoa Colony believes strongly in the many benefits of chocolate and the star item of this franchise is the Amazonian Liquid Gold ($2/cup), that flows from a tap. The amazingly thick, rich chocolate is outstanding on its own, but even better when drizzled onto the gelato brioche or everything else, really.

There’s a reason Chocolate Origin has a cult following. The folks behind the brand have figured out all the secrets to a successful chocolate recipe, offering the shop’s popular Lava Cake ($5), a heavenly treat made up of cold vanilla ice-cream bottom and warm chocolate cake top, with hot pulsating lava oozing from the inside. Now, this is what people normally refer to as nirvana in a cup.

Head to Audacious Cakery for executive pastry chef Sharryl Ng’s star creation, the Forest Noir, a black forest cake made with Valrhona dark chocolate mousse, Kirsch soaked cherries and cream on a dark chocolate genoise. The texture of the chocolate mousse balances the taste of the cake and that little hint of alcohol hits just the right spot. Other items to try on the menu would be the flavourful Chocolate Soufflé and the Chocolate Ganache Cupcake. Oh, and did we mention that you can purchase your Audacious cakes online too? Check it out here!

If you’re looking for crazily rich chocolate cake, the Chocolate Guanaja at The Bakery Chef is your best bet. The handsome looking cake is made from a bittersweet French chocolate that has the perfect hint of sweetness. Located in the heartlands, this spot also puts out other seriously good pastries, cupcakes and macarons.

Located right along the river at Roberston Quay, young couples (us included) are often spotted sharing the signature Chocolate Soufflé that’s coated with a rich layer of chocolate.
