Heard of the juice cleanse? Sassy girl Emilie shares her first-hand experience on how her 5-day cleanse went down!
The beginning of the year means new resolutions and a fresh start! Local juicing collective, Antidote, approached us to try their organic cold-pressed juices just last week, and of course I jumped at the chance! Not only does this local juicing company offer a variety of juices, they also have a plethora of cleanses and packages that’s truly good for the body.
I successfully tried a cleanse before at a spa retreat in Thailand and I absolutely loved it because it was a holiday and my days were filled with massages and sunbathing (made the whole process a lot easier, I think!). Ever since, I’ve been thinking of doing another cleanse so the timing was just perfect! Venessa Toh, co-founder of Antidote was generous enough to give me a 5-day juice cleanse. She prepared six types juices for me to consume daily for the next five days. And, the juices were delivered right to my doorstep too, twice at that! Once on Sunday, and another on Wednesday.

3 Days to The Cleanse
I received a little prep guide telling me how to best prepare for the cleanse and also what side effects I can expect going through the experience. I experienced some of them during my first cleanse like headaches and grumpiness so I was mentally prepared. As of this day, I was recommended to stop consumption of alcohol, caffeine and dairy as well as sugar and processed carbs. I wonder how I will do this time round…
1 Day to The Cleanse
The juices were delivered on Sunday evening, 36 bottles to be exact and that was only for the next three days! The juices were sent in a cooler bag so they stay fresh and each bottle has a number on it so all I had to do was to drink bottles numbers one to six between two to four hour intervals.
Finally, I start on the cleanse. It is now 5:30pm and, so far so good. I’m avoiding situations where other people are eating around me as I know that will make the process even harder. I loved the cashew and coffee juice (decaf of course), which is really creamy and almost tasted like iced coffee. Still three juices to go for today. Better go drink one more now…
Last night I could hear my stomach rumbling and it was probably wondering why it wasn’t receiving it’s daily calorie intake. I didn’t manage to finish all six juices yesterday. I was done at five – too many liquids! This morning I felt pretty good, not too hungry and the fact that I had a busy schedule kept me distracted so I didn’t think about food. All the juices are really delicious and varied, plus they come in a rainbow of colors too! I am a little light-headed but no headaches or crazy tempers so far, although I have been warned this might happen!
Hanging in there!
I feel like my body is getting used to drinking only juices and I’m no longer hungry. I have asked Antidote to change the juice mix for my last two days, to have less fruity ones and more green juices instead (more hardcore!). So this morning I had a whole new selection of juices to choose from which, is great as I was getting a little bored of the same six juices after three days. I must warn you that it is not all pretty, because I have developed mouth sores – I read this is normal and is part of the toxin purging process, and I had to pee every hour! Other than that I feel energised and I dare say my mind seems sharper. My colleagues may disagree on that one though. Tomorrow is my last day, hooray! Just in time for the weekend.
FriYAY! Last day of my cleanse. Today in my juice selection I have more vegetable juices. All of them include fruits still, so they are really easy to drink. Even my kids loved them! I did struggle a little around 5pm and ate some vegetables mainly because I was meeting friends for drinks and didn’t want to be on an empty stomach.
Overall, although I am happy to eat hard food again, I’m a little sad that I must give up the juices. I have noticed that my skin has cleared up, I sleep better during the cleanse than I have ever before and I have so much energy! Oh and by the way, I think I even lost about 2kg without even trying – bonus!
