If you considered the art world a bit inaccessible and somewhat exclusive, you wouldn’t be the only one. We all know that pieces can sell for millions of dollars and as an art lover it can be a little daunting if you’re looking to buy something to adorn those bare walls. Thankfully, Singapore’s Affordable Art Fair is back for another edition with over 70 galleries showcasing a mix of local and international artists filling up the F1 Pit Building.
With awesome contemporary prints, paintings, sculptures and photographs priced as low as $100, you’re bound to find something to fit your taste and budget. Aimed at making art both accessible and (you guessed it) affordable, three quarters of everything on the walls will be available for under $7, 500! Even if you don’t end up buying, there’s plenty going on besides the art, with workshops, seminars, food and drinks galore, making this an event not to be missed!
It wouldn’t be an art fair without a fabulous party with all the movers and shakers and this year, AAF have teamed up with Singapore-based art magazine Art Republik for a new night called “AAFter Glow Evening“. Featuring a heady mix of international DJs, flowing drinks and a live performances by local artists Malvina Tan and A’shua Imran, this party is the perfect pit-stop to kick off the art weekend.
Want to get your hands dirty? Well you’re in luck, girls because there’ll be print-making workshops held throughout the fair, where you can try your hand at different print-making techniques from embossing to woodcut printing! If you’re feeling even more creative, then you won’t want to miss the Elephant Parade Creative Workshops, inspired by Diana Francis’ life-sized elephant sketch all in the name of elephant conservation. On your way in, you’ll bump into a literal pink elephant in the room (psst, Instagram it and you might win an Elephant Parade Art Box!), but the real fun comes with daily workshops where you’ll be able to make 2D or 3D mini versions for yourselves. The 2D sessions run all day but the 3D ones will require a bit of forward planning with sessions held on Friday at 12:30-2pm and 7-8:30pm; Saturday at 12:30-2pm and 5-6:30pm; Sunday at 12:30-2pm and 3-4:30pm.
Did we also mention, the fair will have a dedicated wine bar by 1855, The Bottle Shop – because after all, what’s an art event without a bit of vino?
So, if you’re still left twiddling your thumbs wondering what to do this weekend, make your way down to the Pit Building and you may even end up leaving with that perfect piece to spruce up your pad!
