Living in a modern and bustling Asian city like Singapore means we’re surrounded by jaw-dropping skyscrapers, a stunning skyline and innovative design all the time. But how often do we really take a look around and take stock of the amazing design that surrounds us? Well, from 10 to 22 March, the Singapore Design Week returns to our shores with the aim of deepening our appreciation and understanding of design innovation.
Organised by Design Singapore Council, Singapore Design Week is held annually and brings local and international designers and events together for a jam-packed two weeks of trade shows, conferences, showcases, exhibitions and workshops. SDW attracts designers, businesses, design students and creative members of the public so no need to fret if you’re not a design-snob, there’s something for everyone!
This year, SDW will be celebrating Singapore’s 50th anniversary with a special showcase called Fifty Years of Singapore Design. Telling the story of how design has changed and contributed to the Lion City’s economy over the years, this exhibition will be a mix of visual art, product and fashion design as well as environmental design, with over 200 artifacts on display. Be sure to catch SDW’s anchor event SingaPlural 2015, a showcase of the best of the best in Singapore’s talented design field as well as the International Furniture Fair, New British Inventors: Inside Heatherwick Studio and Maison&Objet Asia 2015.
