What Is It?
If you’re an admirer of art but aren’t equipped with the proper finances to own your favourite pieces, that’s where the Affordable Art Fair comes in. It’s a leading showcase of affordable and contemporary art, delightfully crammed together in one destination. Galleries exhibit their existing art pieces, allowing attendees to browse through or purchase picks they desire.
Founder Will Ramsay strongly believes in opening the art market to a wider audience, his method of doing so having proved effective over the last few years. This November, the Affordable Art Fair runs through the 12th to 15th of the month, located at the F1 Pit Building. Do note attendees are required to purchase tickets, except children under the age of 16.
What To Expect
The Affordable Art Fair houses an eclectic mix of art forms, a vast range consisting of paintings and sculptures amongst countless others. 85 galleries have signed up to be a part of November’s Autumn showing, providing a diverse selection of innovative pieces up for sale.
Imagine a space decked in a flurry of colour, crowded with waves of participants scouring for the perfect take home piece. Some attend merely to browse or seek inspiration while soaking in the lively atmosphere. Since art is sometimes perceived as an intimidating subject, the fair hopes to create a no pressure environment by congregating all types of art appreciators, sending out a message that both educated connoisseurs and art novices alike are warmly welcomed.
The Different Programmes
Organisers have cooked up a whole slew of activities, catering to attendees of all ages. Those hungry for information about art can join the art education programme, aimed at educating and informing interested parties. Children get to expand their creativity at the art studio, where a long list of engaging activities await.
Famous local chef Janice Wong is also collaborating with DBS Bank, immersing their Treasures Artspace Lounge in a collection of her edible art creations. Janice’s portfolio has been wildly expanding, fascinating those who have tasted her visually entrancing sweets. She’ll also be designing a unique chocolate painting experience, which event goers can try their hand at.
Organisers are constantly thrilled to witness participants trudge home happily with purchases, but they do have words of advice on making the right choice. First off, it’s best to slowly scan through what’s available, before even considering your options. Picking up a fair guide upon entrance is advisable, as well as bringing around a pen and paper. If any art piece speaks to you, chances are you’ve probably just found a suitable pick for your collection.
Once you’re ready to take home an art piece, check if the price is within your budget. If it isn’t, fret not because majority of the exhibiting galleries are part of an Own Art Scheme, which allows for discussion regarding instalments.
How To Get There
The event is providing their very own Affordable Art Fair branded bus, which will run throughout the weekend from City Hall to the F1 Pit Building, with a pick-up point located opposite the Capitol Building.
If you’re unable to catch the shuttle bus, Promenade and Nicoll Highway are the nearest MRT stations, whereas buses 106, 111, 133 do pass by bus stops within the vicinity. Art fair visitors are allowed free parking at the F1 Pit Building, but do note it’s subjected to availability.
