When it comes to Singapore’s national pastime, it has to be eating. Morning, noon and night, delicious aromas fill the air making this fair city a true foodie paradise.
So, for those out there whose most feared words are ‘closed’ or ‘serving until..’, we have compiled a list of the very best late night restaurants around.
Bar Bar Black Sheep
Why serve one cuisine when you can serve three? That’s exactly what’s going on at Bar Bar Black Sheep with their Thai, Indian and Western menus. While the prices are friendly and the portions are big, it’s not somewhere to go for gourmet food. However, if you’re in the mood for some good old honest grub late into the evening, then you can’t go wrong.
Ba Ba Black Sheep, at various locations across Singapore. Open until 11pm weekdays and 1am weekends. For more information see www.facebook.com/BarBarBlackSheep
Whether you’re a fan of K-Pop or you’re feeling a little peckish after an evening of pubbing and clubbing, Boss BarBQ will keep you happy. A famed, and indeed popular (we have seen people queuing late into the night) Korean BBQ chain, it’s the frankly delicious spicy fried chicken, traditional Kimchi pancake and BBQ pork belly that keeps us coming back. Oh and if you’re not quite ready to hang up those heels and call it a night, Boss BarBQ also play K-MTV and have a full and delightfully delicious cocktail menu to keep you going into the early hours.
Boss BarBQ, at various locations across Singapore. Open until 1am. For more information see www.bossbarbq.sg
There’s a certain school of thought that believes that ending a night with a prata ensures a happy tomorrow. Okay, that could just be us, but there is something about this delicious Indian bread that makes the morning after less hideous. Especially when you’ve been to Mr Prata, the famed and fabulous 24-hour prata heaven on Evans Road. While there’s everything from garlic prata, egg prata with onion to strawberry prata, we always go for the cheese prata – lip-smackingly delicious.
Mr Prata 26 Evans Road, Singapore, 259367, +65 6235 6993. Open 24 hours, for more information see www.mr-prata.com
Crystal Jade – Holland Village
For when a hankering for some Chinese (and in this case and Teochew) food hits in the middle of the night, then Crystal Jade in Holland Village is where you need to be. Open until the very early hours of 4am at weekends, we the love Xiao Long Bao, pork buns and sticky ribs. Oh, and at around $8 a dish, it’s wallet-friendly too.
Crystal Jade Holland Village, 2A Lorong Mambong, 277671, 6469 0300. Open until 3am weekdays and 4am weekends, www.crystaljade.com
2am Dessert Bar
Another Holland Village eatery (who knew HV dwellers were such night owls) and this time, they’ve moved onto pudding. Having recently completed a full renovation, 2am Dessert Bar is back and more sparking than ever. With a new sleek and chic menu to reflect the new look, you can expect edible art experiences, chocolate tables, marshmallow walls as well as a funky fresh cocktail menu. That’s us sold.
2am Dessert Bar, 21a Lorong Liput, Holland Village, 277673, 6291 9729. Open until 2am everyday. www.facebook.com/2amdessertbar?ref=hl
Who says late night bites need to be quick and cheerful? If you’re after something a little grander, then there’s the cute bistro bar Fordham&Grand. Modelled on the speakeasy concept popular in Singers at the moment, this gorgeously chic restaurant and cocktail bar serves a full menu until 11, with bites including minute steak and fries, oyster fritters and cheese boards until 2am.
Fordham&Grand, 43 Craig Road, Singapore, 089681, +65 6221 3088. Open until 3am everyday. www.fng.com.sg
It isn’t just the cute décor, the larger than life signboard or the fantastically friendly service that meant Sopra Cucina made this list, it’s the fact that they serve their range of fresh Sardinian fare until 2am. While pasta and meat are all noteworthy, this reasonably priced Italian restaurant really stands out for its pizzas; thin, crispy and delicious.
Sopra Cucina, Pan Pacific Orchard, 10 Claymore Road, 229540, www.sopracucina.com
One of Sassy’s favourite new restaurants, Le Comptoir is one stylish haunt. Located just off Boat Quay, it serves up fine French crepes in both the sweet and savoury variety. And if that doesn’t float your boat, there’s also a small bistro menu as well as traditional French sharing platters. But where this place really gets our vote is the ambiance; chilled, laid-back and super sleek – no matter what time of day or night, we keep coming back to Le Comptoir.
Le Comptoir, 79 Circular road, Singapore, 049433, 6534 7645, Open until 2am, www.facebook.com/pages/Le-Comptoir-Singapore/647886515284700
Regular readers will know our love affair with the deco-inspired city centre haunt that is Black Swan. From the fresh oysters, delicious steaks to the sharing platters – this stylish hangout gets it right every time. Oh and it doesn’t hurt that it’s open until 1am weekdays and 2am on the weekends. Ideal!
