October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sassy Girls! Here’s what you can do to help in Singapore.
If things have started looking extra rosy to you lately, it’s not the haze finally getting to you: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month worldwide. While that definitely means you can expect to be surrounded by lots of pink stuff over the next 30 days (not that we don’t love pink here at Sassy), it also means there are tonnes of great initiatives going on across Singapore to raise both funds and awareness about this disease that affects so many women around the world.
According to the Singapore Cancer Society, Breast Cancer is the #1 cancer killer of Singaporean women, and 1 in 11 women here will get Breast Cancer in their lifetimes, with numbers steadily on the rise.
One of the keys to survival is early detection (including both self-exams and mammograms), and to that end women age 40 and above who are Singaporean citizens or PRs can get $25 off a mammogram screening island-wide if they make an appointment by 31 October (screenings can be done anytime through 31 January, 2016). Click here for eligibility info and to download the free voucher. Even if you yourself don’t qualify, we bet you know someone who does, so pass this valuable info along!
Want to know what else you can do to help raise Breast Cancer awareness? We’ve rounded up a list of events and fundraising initiatives across Singapore to keep you abreast (sorry, couldn’t help it) of goings on this month.

If pink’s not your colour, consider making a donation to a charity that supports medical research or current cancer patients, including the Breast Cancer Foundation, the Singapore Cancer Society, or the National Cancer Centre Singapore’s Research and Community Cancer Funds. We are so close to beating Breast Cancer, but we’re not there yet!
