We may not have Oktoberfest, but honestly, who needs to wait that long? Come the end of June, guzzle to your belly’s content at our region’s very own booze extravaganza as Beerfest Asia returns for a seventh year running. Showcasing more than 400 beers, this year’s festival has done well in gathering a fine selection hailing from Germany, United States, Czech Republic as well as some stellar brews closer to our shores — many of which will be making their exclusive debut at Beerfest Asia 2015. If you’re thinking that’s a whole lotta drinking to do over four days, fret not, because we’ve narrowed down a selection of tipples more than worthy of a glug or two.
The Mad Tapper — Hallelujah Hopricot
Singapore’s first craft cider distributor differentiates themselves from the mass-market varieties with real ciders made with juice from fresh fruits. Made with artisan methods using the best locally-sourced fruits, Hallelujah Hopricot is a complex concoction of flavours ranging from apples, Belgian saison yeast and witbier 8 spices (coriander, bitter orange peel, seeds of paradise, star anise), Oregon grown Cascade hops and a splash of apricot juice.
Flensburger Beers — Flensburger Dunkel & Flensburger Gold
Brewed with water that originates from the North Scandinavian underground glacier flow, the distinctive ‘plop’ sound when the bottle is opened has long become the Flensburg trademark and stands for its unique freshness. The Flensburger Dunkel boasts a fine bitter, fresh and rich in taste; while the Flensburger Gold is a rich-tasting, albeit mild beer with a sophisticated hint of hops brewed with light caramel malt.
East of Avalon Wines — Iron Trooper Maiden
Developed by the lead singer of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson — no less. This British Ale handcrafted at the Robinsons Brewery in United Kingdom is sure set to set your tastebuds afire.
Wunderbar LLP — ABK Rose
For those who crave something on the lighter side, the ABK Rose is a concoction of light ABK Beer with organic lemonade with a 100% natural rose colour.
With all that drinking going on, be kind to your liver by sipping on Icelandic Glacial Water whilst munching on tasty noms like Fish Cracklings and Beer Battered Fish & Chips from Harry’s.
Of course if marathon chugging isn’t your thing, as it shouldn’t be, be sure to keep your eyes and ears peeled for the musical extravaganza Beerfest Asia has lined up: from all-girl Led Zeppelin tribute band, Lez Zeppelin, to a host of local musical fellas that include the likes of Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ tribute band, Rock Rosettes.
Whether you may be a casual social drinker or seasoned beer connoisseur, you’d be hard-pressed not to enjoy this four-day booze extravaganza.
