In the lead up to the holiday season, it’s easy to get fixated on presents, lunches and parties. However, it’s equally important to remember to give back to those less fortunate. We’re so often overwhelmed with plans for shopping and partying during this busy time that it’s easy to forget there are people in our fabulous city who are not quite as lucky as we are. This is where #GivingTuesdaySG comes in. Hailed as our new national day of giving, this charity organisation looks to you, the fab folks of the Little Red Dot, to give your time, money or voice to those less fortunate.
Launched in the United States back in 2012, #GivingTuesdaySG returns to Singapore for a second year and seeks to encourage individuals and businesses to get creative and implement their own fundraising ideas on or by 2 December. The idea is that this campaign is entirely inclusive and allows participants to decide exactly how they would like to give back to the community. Having worked with over 100 official partners over 30 events last year and successfully raising $4million in donations that benefited more than 15,000 beneficiaries – this year’s organisers have set the bar high and plan on make #GivingTuesdaySG bigger and better than ever!
So how can you get involved? #GivingTuesdaySG are looking for any organisation within any industry or any individual to run their own giving campaign. If you need some inspiration; the founding partners have held campaigns such as Mastercard making a donation to CommChest for every MasterPass digital wallet transaction between 2 to 16 December, members from Citibank will be fulfilling more than 450 “wishes” from seven different voluntary welfare organisations and the Food-4-Good Campaign pledges sales proceeds from special charity menus at some of our favourite restaurants and watering-holes to a charity of their choice.
Every little helps when it comes to giving, so don’t feel like you can’t get involved as an individual. Whether you plan on starting your own charity campaign, joining someone else’s giving project, donating money, volunteering your time or simply spreading the word through social media, #GivingTuesdaySG are looking for all the support they can get. So, get in touch now by visiting GivingTuesday.sg and find out how you can help!
