We heard about the new menu at Ash & Elm at InterContinental Singapore so we sent Sassy’s contributor, Paula to Ash & Elm to check the food out.
Whether you are looking for a spot for date night or a place to just unwind over a glass of wine, the new restaurant at the Intercontinental Hotel, Ash & Elm checks all the boxes.
Housing three “theaters” where diners can watch their charcuterie being freshly cut, the wood fire oven bake the flatbread, or the main course be prepared, the open concept European restaurant is both something to see and experience.
I started the night with the complimentary bread basket which features a mix between breadsticks and dinner rolls, which also comes with a different flavoured butter every night just to keep things fresh.
Next came the cheese plate, flavourful pumpkin and bacon flatbread (I know right!), and the Ash & Elm Platter, a charcuterie platter consisting of beef pastrami, smoked pork loin, roast beef, pork belly, and foie gras with smoked duck pate (the smoked duck pate being the highlight for me) just a sampling of the “sharing plates” they offer.
I had to remind myself to pace myself, as the main course was still to come! Soon, we were presented with an array steaks, Flank, Ribeye, and Striploin, all of which were seared to perfection, with asparagus, roasted tomatoes and garlic. For those not wanting steak, a baked chicken with creamy polenta gracing the side, and a healthy portion of salmon with mixed veggies are also on the menu. None of which were discriminated against in terms of the love that went into preparation. We were definitely hitting every inch of our flavour palettes.
No dinner is complete without a glass of wine and with over 100 different wine labels to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice! I chose a beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon which paired nicely with every plate.
“A good dessert is often the key to ending the meal on a high note. At Ash & Elm, we compliment the savoury menu by keeping our dessert flavours clean. Using a few key ingredients in each dessert we emphasise on the interactions between the texture and flavour of each, so that it’s simple yet satisfying,” says Ben Goh, Pastry Chef.
Satisfied we were, as well as spoiled for choice, when it came to taming the sweet tooth. Chocolate Hazelnut pizza, Peach Melba, Salty Chocolate Rum Raisin, and the house made ice cream and sorbet were all tried and tested!
To say that I left satisfied would be an understatement. I was thoroughly wooed.
Ash & Elm at the Intercontinental Hotel serves a full buffet breakfast, semibuffet and ala cart lunch, and dinner. With an open dining concept that brings culinary action to life in the heart of heritage Bugis, guests can expect a delightful dining experience.
