I’ve dropped a not-so-subtle hint before in my previous Editor’s Note that my favourite month of the year is November, and no prizes for guessing why! On November 3, I turned 30. The big 3-0! Cue the screams and anti-wrinkle creams Sassy Girls! Truthfully, I was anxious and afraid months before turning three decades young because I felt unaccomplished. I spent many days thinking, “What positive impact have I made in this world?”, “Did I travel enough?”, “Have I inspired other girls?”; and the lingering worry, “Why is my face filled with so many age lines and wrinkles?!”.
And then one day, I woke up and said aloud (#truestory), “It’s time to cut the bullsh*t and be awesome Liy!” – the amazing things one is capable of feeling and doing after injecting some positivity is unthinkable! I started to look at the world differently, and I took turning 30 as an opportunity to reevaluate and reassess myself for the next phase in life. I was able to honestly look at myself and see what attitudes, behaviour and people I want to bring into my 30s, and what I wanted to leave behind in my 2os.
Yes my hair is gradually turning grey, and I can’t spend a late night out without suffering the after-effects but my last few years in my 20s was kick*ss! I travelled with my two best friends to the land of delicious food and fabrics galore, went on a hen’s trip with a bunch of my great girlfriends to Krabi (hang tight for my holiday review at the beautiful Villa Galanga coming up), finally got my bae to put a ring on it, became the Editor of the amazeballs Sassy Singapore, and now, as I’m writing this, spending my epic birthday with my lovely family in Amsterdam!
Seriously, can life get any sweeter? To you Sassy Girls who are dreading turning a year older, I say screw the clock. You’re older, wiser, and equipped with a cute fat wallet to see the world and gain experiences with so, look the world straight in the eye and be fabulous!
That said, this wonderful month will be filled with nothing short of the best content for you! We’ll be hosting our second Sassy Girls’ Night Out on 19 November (have you RSVP-ed yet?), giving you the 411 on what happened during a bachelorette weekend with my best girls, and dishing out the hottest and latest happenings in town. November will be your favourite month too, I promise!
