Have you given the famous Angelina tearoom a try? This Paris institution is made up of delicious French dreams and more…
The French have been doing everything really well for a long time: wine, cheese, fashion, architecture, and their cuisine, of course. In fact, people travel to the City of Lights just for food. Well, if we had it our way and owned a private jet or lived just a stone’s throw away from France then we’ll do the same for our favourite restaurants. But now, we don’t have to fly a million miles just to get a taste of Angelina!
Sure, this Paris institution is très romantic and is definitely a go-to place with your significant other but it’s also a chic spot for a casual brunch with your favourite girls! In fact, the whole Sassy team hit up this celebrity favourite joint (we heard Coco Chanel often frequented the first store in Paris!) and we caught up over life, news and some gossip over a delectable spread of Hot Chocolate, Brioche French Toast, Eggs Benedict, Fruit Salads, Risottos and Truffle Fries. Yes, that’s quite an extensive list, but to be fair, there were 10 of us!
This swanky new tea room and patisserie is located in the the beautiful Capitol Piazza and is modelled after the original on the famed Rue de Rivoli, featuring the same Belle Époque-inspired décor. The Art Deco frescos, lamps, exquisite furniture and chandeliers were also sourced from Paris. So, if you’ve never been to Paris or have no inkling of the vibes in the quaint city, take Angelina as an example or preview.
Can you guess which signature dish gave us a high? The Old Fashioned Hot Chocolate L’Africain, of course! With 60% cocoa content sourced from Niger, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, the drink is a combination of bitter and smoky chocolate that comes with a pretty little bowl of unsweetened whipped cream that makes for the most decadent treat. In fact, all of us downed a glass each! If you prefer your chocolate cold, there’s also an iced version that’s equally yummy.
Another délicieux pastry on the menu is Angelina’s world-famous Mont Blanc. This domed confection drizzled with tendrils of sweet chestnut puree over a meringue base is topped with the most perfect artisanal whipped cream that will send you to pastry heaven! The marriage of textures and flavours was just utter bliss!
After that lovely party in our mouths, we adjourned to the jaw-dropping (literally) Angelina boutique store where you can takeaway fabulous items like chocolate bars, tea leaves, and jams that are all stored in such pretty packaging that’ll make perfect gifts! Oh, that Old Fashioned Hot Chocolate L’Africain that we were raving about earlier is for sale too, in bottles!
Angelina offers all day dining and their brunch menu goes all the way to 2.30pm, along with snacks, salads and a wide variety of French favourites all the way to dinner. So if you’re planning your next brunch or dinner, you ought to give Angelina a try! We promise that you won’t be disappointed!
