Girls, we’ve shared your shopping frustration – that uninspiring feeling of shopping the same stores over and over again only to discover everyone else has bought the same stuff. Is there somewhere that can give us a really unique shopping experience? we hear you ask. Well get your wallets ready girls and say hello to a brand new and permanent Chillax Market at The Grandstand, opening this October!
Already established as one of the best markets in Singers (check out our ultimate guide to the Lion City’s best markets and fairs), Chillax Market launched in 2012 as a quarterly outdoor pop-up. Working with unique designers and small businesses, Chillax fast became one of our favourite go-to shopping spots for locally designed fashion, gourmet artisanal foods, one-of-a-kind jewellery and gorgeous gifts. So you can imagine our delight when Chillax announced the opening of their first permanent indoor retail market!
Covering 6,900 square feet, their new indoor space will house 30 vendors for six months at a time, selling everything from clothing and home furnishings to speciality food and beautifully crafted furniture. Hand-picked for their original and delightful products, the different vendors at Chillax Market all have a unique creative flair that helps break up the occasional monotony of shopping in Singapore. We already have our eye on Cafthos, who will be selling gorgeous printed kaftans – perfect for sundowners by the beach. The colourful one-of-a-kind ceramics from Bowerbird are wonderfully vintage-looking and sure to brighten up the house. Plus, we’ll definitely be calling into Red Carousel to stock up on stylish decorations before our next big bash. Psst…we also hear that Chillax Market will be launching a downloadable mobile app in October so we can shop the best of Singapore’s creative bunch while on the go. Hooray!
Not simply a shopping destination, the creators of Chillax Market want their space to be a lifestyle hub, with plans to host free weekend workshops for everything from interior styling to floral design. We’ve also heard the décor has been inspired by the rustic charm of other markets such as Portobello Market in London and Les Puces de Saint-Ouen in Paris, which has us sold! We can’t wait to spend a lazy weekend getting our caffeine fix, browsing for bargains, checking out the latest art exhibitions in their in-house gallery, listening to some live music and perhaps even get a quick mani-pedi in their nail bar!
See you in October!
