Washing gunk off your skin without leaving it taut shouldn’t have to cost a bomb – after all it’s not staying on for long. We show you some of our favourites that get the work done without wrecking our wallets. Biore Marshmallow Whip Facial Wash (150ml) $13.90 Push down on the pump to get super dense and fluffy facial foam that’s all ready to wipe the impurities off your face. The product says it has 800% more micro-bubbles and eight times denser foam than anything you could ever lather by yourself. So, how does this help us? Well, quite simply, these tiny bubbles are able to get into your itty bitty pores much easier to clean them out. There are three types to suit your skin’s needs – one for the acne-prone, dry skin and normal/combination type – and all of them will leave your skin feeling properly cleansed, smooth and not taut.
Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash (150ml), $10.95 Pricing is a funny thing – sometimes when a product is too inexpensive, we immediately discount its efficacies. Don’t let this value-for-money product be one of them. Formulated without parabens, SLS/SLES and phthalates, this gentle, soap-free herbal cleanser is a superb acne buster. The two key ingredients of neem oil and turmeric are highly antibacterial and anti-fungal – they help to soothe redness, banish impurities and prevent acne from recurring. Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Face Wash (100g) $13.50 This is one of my personal favourites – washing with this seems to brighten my skin and close my pores. Plus, it feels very hydrating – which is no surprise as it contains hyaluronic acid, a substance your body naturally produces, and is present in the spaces between skin cells, holding moisture, keeping skin firm, plump and supple. Hada Labo uses super hyaluronic acid, which retains about double the moisture capacity of regular hyaluronic acid. This facial wash is free of fragrances, mineral oil, alcohol and colourant, and goes a long, long way!
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser (250ml) $14.90 This cult cleanser honestly doesn’t need much of an introduction. You have probably already read about beauty editors, models, celebrities and dermatologists raving about it for its mild and non-irritating yet effective formula in cleansing all types of skin – even the most sensitive and those with special needs (like rosacea-prone skin). It also packs a moisturising punch without leaving a residue that can clog pores. Fans rave about its ability to help clear up stubborn acne and soothe and calm sensitive skin.
Bioderma Sensibio H20 (250ml) $29.90 This cult product is perfect for those late, late nights when you’re too tired to faff around with a skincare routine. Pour some of this micellar cleanser onto a cotton pad, wipe the gunk and makeup off, then head straight to the sack – no rinsing necessary. Its fragrance- and soap-free formula is suitable even for the most sensitive of skins and this soothing cleanser has tiny micelle microspheres that attract impurities and bind it to the cotton pad. They themselves naturally adhere to the cotton too, and that’s why there’s no need to rinse off since nothing is left behind on your face. Those with dehydrated skin can try Hydrabio H20 for more moisture, and the acne-prone or combination skin folks can give the sebum-regulating Sebium H20 a shot. The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam (150ml) $19.90 Forget using dirty rice water in your skin brightening efforts, this cleansing foam contains a better quality version, made with seven kinds of grain extract from white rice, brown rice, black rice, rice bran and more. Many users just love how this creamy, lightly floral-scented wash leaves their skin oh-so-baby smooth and looking clean and positively radiant – some say it even helps to tighten their pores! Burt’s Bees Orange Essence Facial Cleanser (120g) $18 You’ll enjoy the zesty, perk-me-up citrus scent thanks to the orange oil infused in this sulfate-free facial wash – it also has deep-cleansing soap bark extract. Massage the gel onto your wet face to remove dirt, excess oil and make-up in a snap. The formula also includes nourishing olive and oat oils, aloe and vegetable-based glycerine (an ingredient that helps skin attract and retain moisture). Those with oily skin might find this a little rich, so you should rinse off with warm water or use a wash cloth.
Soap & Glory Face Soap and Clarity (150ml) $21 A 3-in-1 daily face wash that helps purge impurities, remove makeup and gently exfoliate with its natural, ultra-soft scrub beads. It contains the brand’s exclusive Superfruit Yuzu complex, which helps to energise, tone and brighten the skin. Couple that with the infused vitamins and amino acids, and you have in your hands an effective radiance booster and blemish buster. Oh, and that fruity scent – so invigorating!
