Our bank accounts may have wept a few times since H&M opened their doors in Singapore three years ago, but we have to count ourselves lucky. We have seen H&M collaborations with fashion bigwigs like Isabel Marant, Givenchy and Mason Martin Margiela launch on our sunny shores.
We don’t need to tell you to pencil this into your calendars because you already have. Come 6 Nov at 8am, H&M Singapore will be launching the much-anticipated Alexander Wang collaboration for the first time at both their flagship store at Orchard Building and their store in ION Orchard.
If you have seen photos of the collection at all, which we’re sure you have, you know the overarching theme – gym clothes. While Wang admitted to VOGUE, ““I’m not really an athlete, and I go to the gym very . . . minimally” during the runway preview of his collaboration, the threads he sent down the runway are somewhat workout appropriate, but would work just as well out of Ritual and onto Robertson Quay.
But you know all that. We checked out the collection at H&M’s showroom last week and here’s everything you need to know about the collection:
A Lot Of The Clothes Are Singapore Weather-Friendly
Unlike some of the collaboration collections that were launched in the later part of the year, Alexander Wang x H&M’s collection actually has a lot of pieces that you can wear in our permanently summer climate. Yes, there are leather jackets and coats in the collection, but there are heaps of pieces, like the cropped top and leggings that Rihanna is rocking above that can be worn in our weather without sweating up a storm.
The Cheapest Item Is Only $14.90
…but the most expensive, a reflective, wind-proof men’s down jacket is $599.
Yes, There Will Be Heels
Only in the realm of fashion will there be heels in a sports-inspired collection. And the heels are pretty smokin’. These babies that we Instagrammed above will set you back $399, and from what we’ve seen on social media, we suspect these very heels will be one of the first pieces to be wiped off the shelves. If you’re wondering, yes, these heels are a redesign from Wang’s sold out Freja boots, which first appeared as part of his spring/summer 2010 collection.
The Accessories Will Probably Sell Out First
We don’t box, but we want the boxing gloves ($99.90). And we haven’t carried a backpack since primary school, and yet we’re having dreams of the leather backpack ($349) that comes with a water-repellent cover, because obviously you need a bag for your leather backpack when it looks this sexy.
We’re Obsessed With The Sports Bras
We’ve been obsessed with the fitness trend for a while now and we love that it’s showing no signs of stopping any time soon. Sure, we love our Charlotte Olympia heels but we love our Under Armour sneakers just as much. We can see ourselves rockin’ these sports bras on and off the floor of our gym.
There WILL be a queue
Just like all the collaboration launches in Singapore, this one will most definitely have a queue overnight. What may be good news for some is that you can actually now sit indoors in a mall because the collection will launch in both their flagship store in Orchard Building and in ION at the same time, at 8am on 6 Nov.
Follow us on Instagram for updates on the collection (and the queues!) as we get closer to the launch date.
