While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with indulging in Singapore’s yummy local food, there will come a point where you’re starting to crave something healthy, yet yummy.
Afterglow, another cute spot along the uber hip Keong Saik road right next to Muchachos, offers just that with its farm-to-table and organic raw food, a concept that is refreshingly different in Singapore’s food scene.
The funky, yet cozy and quaint look and feel makes this a comfortable spot to be in either for lunch or dinner. Oh and the cool part is all the furniture seen in the restaurant is for sale and locally produced! Afterglow also has a shelf full of awesome natural products, such as soaps and candles, all without all the nasty chemicals.
Now onto the best part, food! Afterglow has some delicious and ridiculously healthy salad options to choose from. For all the kimchi lovers out there, Afterglow offers kimchi nori rolls on the menu. The sushi rice has been cleverly substituted by crushed almonds, and is surprisingly filling. The raw zucchini linguine with coriander pesto was also interesting and definitely easier on the taste buds. The chocolate brownie dessert was the highlight, because you would never know that avocado was used to achieve the creamy consistency of a chocolate mouse. A touch of Tamarind was also thrown in to bring out the bitterness of the chocolate. To wash down the food, the cold and slow pressed juices go perfectly, especially on a hot day!
It may not be the kind of restaurant you’d frequent on a daily basis, but it sure is worth a visit once in a while after the occasional overdose of carbs and oily foods.
