If you’re reading this, then you’ve accepted the power of the single, independent woman. To you I say: well done and high fives all around. (Otherwise if you’ve just come out of a breakup, I offer you this beautiful video in the hopes that it’ll help you the way it did me.) This February 14th, while everybody else is planning elaborate dinners and forking out a small country’s fortune on showy bouquets, there are a number of other things you can be off doing either by yourself or with your girls for a proper Galentine’s day around Singers. Check it all out below.
Sure, this article’s peppered with Parks and Recreation references, but Tom and Donna’s motto never did us wrong on February 14th. Do that thing you love regardless of whether or not it’s a tiny bit more expensive than usual, beauty junkies can head on over to Ikeda Spa or get their nails done (check out our favourite nail art places here), shopaholics can hit Orchard with a vengeance and foodies can throw an elaborate dinner party with friends. Everyone deserves a little loving this holiday, so why not start with you?
There’s enough love to go around and not enough people feeling it, ladies. There are a number of great local charities that we know would appreciate the help this February here, ranging from helping other ladies like you, underprivileged kiddos and families, animals and more.
Hit the Town
The town’s pretty much going to be painted red this holiday, so why not head on out and party with all the other singles? Most clubs are going to have something special lined up this Valentine’s Day, Zouk’s making the most of Japanese house music with DJ Asahara, Attica’s running a special lock and key No Strings Party and we’re sure your other favourite haunts will be doing something too. Singledom isn’t so bad, girls.
Escape the Room
Grab your smartest friends and try out the phenomenon that’s been sweeping Asia. If you’ve never headed over to Trapped, the idea is that you and your friends are locked in a room for an hour and have to find a way out by solving complex riddles, which all revolve around the storyline of the room you’ve chosen. Yes, we know it sounds like Saw and no, we can attest that it’s not quite the same experience, but it’s a super fun alternative night out that’ll have you working together with your BFFs to break out… Did we mention they’re doing a special Friday the 13th room?
It’s Oscars season and you might as well catch up before the awards start. Luckily this year, there isn’t a load of overly romantic mush that’s been nominated. For a dash of darkness, check out Birdman, a super fresh psychological drama about a former superhero actor, or Gone Girl, a thriller about a crazy dysfunctional couple directed by the guy behind Fight Club and Se7en. Feeling something a little lighter? Big Hero 6, Guardians of the Galaxy, Into the Woods and The Grand Budapest Hotel are absolutely uplifting and full of contagious energy. Introspectives or history buffs, check out Boyhood, Selma or The Imitation Game. Or you know what, Friends is always on Netflix.
Share the love
The holiday doesn’t have to be all about us, girls. Do something for your pals this year, whether you’re whisking them off to try some of the best chocolates in Singapore, sending flowers to your bestie’s office or commandeering them for a not-so-romantic dinner; after all, who better to split a bottle with and stuff your face with?
Have a great one girls and remember at the end of it all, Feb 14th is just another day. (It’s not even a public holiday!)
