Whether you’re a freelancer, have your own business or just love to get out of the house to take care of your huge backlog of admin, cafes with free wifi are the perfect blend of work and play! Unfortunately there’s a bit of a growing trend for NOT providing wifi to keep customers flowing, so we thought we’d round up our favourite spots where the coffee’s good and the vibe is friendly!
The Book Café
With its homey vibe and great service, River Valley’s Book Café welcomes peaceful lingerers. While you’re nursing a coffee for a while, rifle through their stash of books for sale and fashion mags for browsing. Most importantly though, their wifi is super-quick.
The Book Cafe, 20 Martin Road, River Valley, Singapore 239070, 6887 5430, www.thebookcafe.com.sg
Open: Sun-Thurs 8:30am – 10:30pm, Fri-Sat 8:30am – 12:30am
It might not rock our world, but Brunetti’s is a solid Sassy Girl stalwart with its convenient Tanglin Mall location, decent coffee and selection of food and sweet treats. The wifi is great and at quiet times (weekday afternoons for example) you can definitely eak out a couple of hours working time there.
Brunetti, 163 Tanglin Road, #01-35 Tanglin Mall, Singapore 247933, 6733 9088, www.facebook.com/BrunettiSingapore
Open: Sun-Thurs 8am – 9pm, Fri-Sat 8am – 10pm
Located in a tucked-away part of Buona Vista is a charming little hangout which serves up some of the best coffee we’ve enjoyed in Singers and really feels like a neighbourhood joint. Friendly to keyboard warriors, they also do a selection of simple-done-right munchies.
Jimmy Monkey, 9 One-North Gateway, #01-51 One-North Residences, Singapore 138643, 6777 8470, www.jimmymonkey.com
Open: Mon-Fri 8:30am – 8:30pm, Sat-Sun 8:30am – 6pm
Jones the Grocer
We steer clear of the dark ION and Mandarin Gallery branches to head to the original sun-drenched premises at Dempsey where we grab a table outside under the fans, and seek some inspiration in the leafy surroundings. Their yummy brekkie options are a great bonus as is the speedy wifi connection!
Jones the Grocer, 9 Dempsey Rd, #01-12 Dempsey Hill, Singapore 247697, 6476 1512, www.jonesthegrocer.com
Open: everyday 9am – 11pm
Our favourite branch of Kith for getting down to some serious working has got to be their random Park Mall branch on Penang Road, which is a lot more peaceful than their Rodyk Street location! Settle yourself peacefully at the back of the café with a huge mug of java and get ready to let the creativity flow!
Kith Café, 9 Penang Road, #01-01E Park Mall, Singapore 238459, 6338 8611, www.kith.com.sg
Open: Tues-Sun: 8am – 10pm, Closed on Mon
We adore this little hipsterish café in Kampong Glam on a rainy day as you just can’t get cosier! Nibble on a fudge caramel brownie, indulge in one of their lattes and just accept you might be a little squished as this place is popular… Once your workday is done you can even head upstairs to their cocktail bar for a well-deserved alcoholic treat!
Maison Ikkoku, 20 Kandahar Street, Singapore 198885, 6294 0078, www.maison-ikkoku.net
Open: Mon-Thurs 9am – 9pm, Fri-Sat 9am – 11pm, Sun 9am – 7pm
Want to know the true definition of multi-tasking? Getting a mani-pedi WHILE tapping away on your keyboard! Manicurious is an adorable nail salon/café/boutique and they’ll throw in a free coffee with every service. We dare you to resist one of their Windowsills pie slices! They also have a new outlet on Tras Street, which shares its premises with super-chic bar, Jekyll & Hide which we can’t wait to check out either!
Manicurious, 41 Beach Road, Singapore 189680, 6333 9096, www.manicurious.sg
Open: Mon-Sat: 11am – 9pm. Closed on Sun
While it might be totally out of the way to get to, once you discover this quaint neighbourhood gem with its strong coffee and home baked goodies, you’ll find it hard to leave. And if you end up clocking a bit of overtime, you’ll even be able to sneak in a boutique beer or two… straight from the tap. Ahhhh!
Necessary Provision, 21 Eng Kong Terrace, Singapore 598993, 9231 7920, www.necessaryprovisions.com
Open: Tue-Thu 10am – 10pm, Fri-Sat 10am – 12am, Sun 10am – 6pm. Closed on Mon & first Tue of the month.
This relative newcomer to the Singapore café scene is a bit of a Jones the Grocer spinoff, so you can expect fantastically simple nosh, a fun selection of takeaway gourmet treats and of course, good coffee. They’re in Mandarin Gallery in Orchard so if your concentration wanes, get your shop on instead!
Providore, 333A Orchard Road, #02-05 Mandarin Gallery, Singapore 238897, 6732 1565, www.theprovidore.com
Open everyday 9am – 11pm
Robertson Quay’s Toby’s Estate is a longtime fave of the Sassy team for its riverside views, delicious food and out-of-this-world coffee. They’ve recently undergone a renovation, so we’re excited to see what improvements they’ve made, and we’re crossing our fingers it’ll be nothing short of awesome.
Toby’s Estate, 8 Rodyk Street, Singapore 238216, 6636 7629, www.tobysestate.com.sg
Open everyday 7am-4pm
